We've had a couple servers with Pugmarks/BeachComber, our first with BeachComber for close to 5 years, and then we recently upgraded to a new one in the new Pugmarks datacenter in Chicago about 6 months ago.
We've had a few fairly serious issues with them over the years. The first was a couple years ago, having our server placed on a suspended rack at the datacenter due to non-payment, when no payment was due according to their own site! We were down for a number of hours, and tech support refused to do anything about it because it was supposedly a billing issue -- talk about frustrating! We ended up finding an old phone number for one of the managers and got it resolved, but if it hadn't been for that lucky break we would have been down for 48 hours (why do those things always happen on Friday evening?!)
This past week we had several days with downtime, and support produced a variety of lame excuses. The first day was blamed on city construction crews working outside the building. The second day was blamed on an AT&T fiber cut. And we never really got an explanation for the third day lol. In total close to 2 hours downtime at peak weekday afternoon usage times, hardly good for business.
Aside from the recent datacenter issue we've not had too many problems with the technical side of things. Everything has a very outsourced feel to it (the company is even BASED in India now!), from the techies to the managers. It's such a pain to move live client sites between servers, so we'll probably ride it out for a while and see. But I can't say I'd really recommend them to others. |
